Day 202, January 31

The Offering:  Dogfish Head, Burton Baton. Oak aged imperial IPA. Dogfish Head Brewery, Delaware, USA

ABV:  10.0%

Nice brew but lacks the complexity of some of the other barrel aged IPAs. Sweet floral hoppy nose. Sweet medium roasted malts. Sweet mouth, the oak barrel is definitely apparent very lightly roasted. The mouthfeel is a little astringent which is interesting for the definite sweetness of the brew. Overall it's tasty but lags behind some other imperials.

Points:  85

ABV: 7.0%

Coffee, dark malts, bitter bitter bitter, really dries the mouth.

Points: 79

The Offering:  Smiske Extra Dry IPA, Cascade IPA, Brouwerij Smisje, Belgium.

ABV: 7.0%

Funky, not sure i like it though.  Farmy Belgian yeast. Bitter.  Tastes like worm dirt.  Bitter earth aftertaste.

Points: 82

The Offering: Obliteration IX, Rye Double Ale, Midnight Sun Brewing, Alaska

ABV: 8.0%

Bitter nose with grapefruit.  More grapefruit on the mouth.  A little sweet and the rye is definitely apparent.  Bitter finish

Points:83

The Offering: La Quatorze {XIV}, Weizenbock, Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes.  Switzerland

ABV: 7.5%

Nice.  Coffee and French is a simple way to describe the mouth.  Similar to a mouvedre and a little sweet.  I get a lot of spicy barnyard floor with some hay and goat.  Welcome to a french coffee farm, I love it.

Points:85

The Offering: Bootlegger's Mint Chocolate Porter, Porter, Bootlegger's Brewery.  California USA

ABV: 6.2%%

Big minty chocolate nose!  Pretty nice mouth as well  but falls a little short.  The profile is a little thin, especially for a porter.  Fun style to try though.

Points:80

The Offering: 2012 Alesmith Decadence, quadrupel, Alesmith.  California USA

ABV: 12.0%

Great, similar to the Westy but not as creamy.  Sweet and spicy.  Dark fruit on the nose. Almost like a teryaki.  Cool brew.

Points:89

The Offering: Professor Fritz Briem Grodziskie, sour smoked wheat ale, Professor Fritz Briem.  Germany

ABV: 4.0%

Piney nose (which is strange because the bottle says the malts are smoked in birch).  A little sour but nothing spectacular going on and a little on the thin side.

Points:81

The Offering: Procrastinator, Eisbock, Brasserie des Franches-Montagnes.  Switzerland

ABV: 10.0%

Smells like a baking soda vinegar reaction.  Super sour with some sweetness in spots.  This one is really teryaki.  Interesting, but I don't like it.  Very weird, but might be worth a try for some of you.

Nice hoppy nose, not overpowering and a little sweet. The mouth is good with solid bitterness and a little cider. The finish lingers with sour notes. It's a reasonable beer but don't go looking for it

Day 193, January 22

The Offering: Snapperhead Farmhouse IPA, IPA, Butternuts Beer and Ale.

ABV: 6.8%

One of the few brews I've had in a can thus far. Not too bad. Definitely an interesting bitter IPA with a bit of funk. The nose is fresh and a bit foresty which plays nicely with the funky mouth. Not great, but interesting.

Day 192, January 21

The Offering: Full Boar Scotch Ale, Devils Canyon Brewing Co. California, USA.

ABV: 7.4%

I'm not sure if the name is influencing the taste buds, but there is a definite wild game note in this brew. I get malty bark and rich roasted meat with salty molasses. I have had this brew on numerous occasions and until "Matilda" came along it was my favorite Devils Canyon beer. I recommend it, but well after Matilda.

Great restaurant in Chau doc called the Mekong. As for the beer, simply another lager. This one is much more wheaty but not much else distinguishing. I really can't wait for Asia as a whole to get into microbrewing!

Day 187, January 16

The Offering: Angkor premium beer, Lager. Cambrew ltd. Sihanoukville. Cambodia

It's not a good sign when the bottle recommends it be chilled to 4•c for "greater satisfaction". Not much here, standard Asian lager.

Day 177, January 6

The Offering: Paulaner Hefe-weissbier Naturtrub. Hefeweizen, Paulaner brouerei GmbH & Co. KG.

ABV: 5.5%

Pleasant hef. Grassy citrus nose with a little banana. Sweet citrus and wheat mouth. There is a slight bitterness from the nose that doesn't carry directly to the mouth but it contributes to a crisp clean finish for a hefeweizen. Good brew.
